On Monday 14th October 2024 about 30 women gathered at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Inverloch for a day of contemplation, sharing and reflection. The day, organised by the Inverloch branch of the Catholic Women’s League, brought women together from Kilcunda, Wonthaggi, Tarwin Lower, Foster, Leongatha and as far as Moama.

The retreat was facilitated by Fr. Martin Dixon who opened the day by asking us to reflect upon the Russian icon painting on display – “HOLY TRINITY, HOSPITALITY OF ABRAHAM” by Andrei Rublev. After discussion time with those around us and also time alone outside in the sunshine, there was some interesting sharing of ideas as a group. Themes of coming together, communion, the relationship of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, sharing a meal and the pathway of life were some of the points of discussion that emerged.

The second part of the day centred around exploring and reflecting upon a number of passages from scripture and various other sources. Father Martin shared some of his personal experiences in parishes, schools and hospitals where “life in all its fullness”, the highs and the lows, was experienced and where the love of God was at work and able to shine through in human relationships and in communities in everyday life.

The day was brought to a conclusion with the celebration of the Eucharist where the ideas explored during the day, were expressed in the readings and the choice of three powerful hymns, “Come As You Are”, “Everyday God” and “City of God”.

The enjoyment of the retreat was complemented by the sharing of a sumptuous lunch and hot beverages. We thank Fr Martin Dixon and the Inverloch CWL and look forward to another such day in the future.
