The Annunciation
Gabriel’s truth looms
large over the elegant
curtsy of the maid.
The birthing star hovers
around the angel’s promise,
strengthening in hope.
Resplendent in his
multi coloured presence he
waits for her response.
All the colour and
focus of the universe
comes to this moment.
The whole cosmos waits
in breathless silence upon
The answer of a girl.
Mary’s gown pools like
oil as she leans into her
self giving answer.
….
God of our hearts,
draw us into the bright mystery of this moment in Time.
May we, too, hear the whispered elegance of your invitation
to bring Christ into the fabric of our being, sharing our joy
that we also are Christ bearers to a world that can be cold and bleak.
We ask this through Him who came to us through the maid who listened and believed, Jesus, your only Son, our Lord and brother.
