On Thursday, 24th October, parish staff and volunteers from across the diocese gathered at St. Jarlath’s Parish Hall in Yarragon for a meaningful day of training and reflection.

The first session focused on the church’s role in supporting victims of family violence. Participants explored ways to “Recognise, Respond, and Refer” in cases of family violence, covering topics such as partner abuse, elder abuse, and family violence affecting children and youth. Through case studies and discussions, they learned to identify warning signs and indicators to better support those in need.

The day continued with an introduction to the Jubilee Year theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” where participants explored the scriptural foundations of the Jubilee and discussed diocesan initiatives planned for the celebration. In small groups, attendees brainstormed ways to integrate Jubilee-focused activities into their parish communities.

The third session, “A Little Bit of Advent,” provided an enriching overview of the Advent season in the liturgical year. The session highlighted key figures, Advent readings, and the significance of the infancy narratives, offering new insights into the spiritual depth of this season.

The event concluded with updates on upcoming diocesan events, including the diocesan assembly. Participants reflected on questions like, “Where have I experienced the Spirit alive in my role?” and “What continues to give me hope in my work?”

The day concluded with participants feeling inspired and equipped for their mission, reflecting on their role in recognizing family violence, reviewing the past year, and renewing their commitment to serve. They left carrying valuable insights and ideas forward into the upcoming Jubilee Year and their mission for 2025.
