Exsultate Justi!
Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous!
It seems that there isn’t much to rejoice over…
The children are still dying in the Gaza Strip,
The Israeli hostages are still pawns in the war,
Ukrainians watch the skies for deadly drones,
Russia and Europe are at loggerheads again,
The Sudanese national museum has been ransacked,
There is talk of compulsory military service in the U.K.,
Defence spending has increased amid worrying times…
And, on average one woman every week
in this country is killed by her intimate partner.
The tariff debacle has shaken the stock market,
Young couples struggle in the housing market…
And we all feel the pinch in the local super market.
Not much to celebrate at all, really.
And yet…
A stone rolls back to reveal an empty tomb.
He is not there.
Suffering and destruction do not have the final say.
Death does not hold sway.
He is risen!
Easter calls us onwards in hope.
Rejoice in the Lord!
