VCEA is the peak body for Catholic school education in Victoria. It provides a number of services and undertakes various functions for Catholic school proprietors and Catholic schools in Victoria, working in close collaboration with proprietors. The services and functions relate to government funding of Catholic schools, school regulation, enterprise bargaining, communications and advocacy, Catholic mission, and research and data analysis.

They were the recipients of the Sion Scholarship, an initiative of the Diocese of Sale Catholic Education since 2005.
