On Sunday 1st of May 2022, our diocesan family had the opportunity to gather together for a celebration to mark the conclusion of the Diocesan Consultation period in preparation for the Synod of Bishops which will be held in Rome in 2023.

The Parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary- St Kieran’s hosted our diocesan gathering at St Kieran’s church in Moe. We gathered from parishes around the diocese to listen to the Word of God and to each other in the voices of each other that were expressed in the many Synod submissions that we received.

Although Bishop Greg was regretfully not able to join in celebrations after falling ill, Fr Brendan Hogan presided and read out a message of welcome by the bishop. The liturgy was enhanced by beautiful music and lively singing, from by the Samoan Divine Mercy Choir from St Agatha’s Parish Cranbourne, ably led by Theresa and Milo Alefosio.

The prayers of the faithful were read in eight different languages by people from all over the diocese, enabling us to hear their heartfelt prayers in their own unique language. As a part of the celebration, everyone was asked to come in their traditional national dresses and it was wonderful to see all the vibrant colours.

There was a fantastic spread of food for afternoon tea set up by the parish catering group at Moe. The gathering was a great opportunity for everyone to meet, make new friends, or meet old friends. This strengthened the bonds of the diocesan family in bringing our people closer together.

Thank you to all those who worked hard to make this event a joyful gathering for our diocese.
