The Chrism Mass was held at St Mary’s Cathedral in Sale on Tuesday 30th March.
Mass was celebrated by Bishop Greg Bennet with 43 clergy from around the Diocese.
The Chrism Mass involves the blessing and consecration of the oils that will be used throughout the Diocese for the sacraments of baptism, anointing of the sick, confirmations and holy orders.
Five Religious sisters from around the Diocese attended along with Serrans, Sale Parish Bereavement Group members and Sale Parishioners, Gaudium et Spes group members, small number of Chancery Staff and people from around the Diocese made up the congregation for the occasion.
A Highlight this year was the commissioning of the Plenary Delegates during the Mass by Dean Peter Bickley. Sale Diocesan Delegates for the Plenary Council in October 2021 are Bishop Greg Bennet, Very Rev Peter Slater VG, Very Rev Denis O’Bryan EV, Lize Privitera and Katherine Jelavic.
Sister Doreen Dagge RSJ was honoured for her diamond jubilee (60) of religious profession and Monsignor John Allman was honoured for his 70-year anniversary of ordination.
A Chrism Mass was not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 lock down and therefore closure of churches over Holy Week so this year’s Mass was a special occasion for those able to attend.
