Taiko drumming and Japanese singing could be heard at St Therese’s Catholic Primary School in Cranbourne on Tuesday, as the school community gathered to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
The day started with a series of fun sport activities, which was followed by a whole school mass led by Fr Joseph Abutu. The festivities also included a blessing of the school’s new prayer garden, a performance by the school’s Japanese choir and Taiko drummers and an art show created by students in Foundation right through to Year 6.
Celebrations drew to a close later in the evening with a community picnic and the whole school singing ‘I am Australian’.
Mrs Michelle Bruitzman, principal of St Therese’s, said the 30-year anniversary is an exciting milestone for the school community.
“We are blessed at St Therese’s to have a loving and inclusive community where each child matters. Guided by the Holy Spirit, our staff’s dedication and commitment ensures each child has access to the tools they need to succeed in life. We live by Saint Therese’s words, ‘Do all that you do with love,’” she said.
Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, Ms Maria Kirkwood, congratulated Mrs Bruitzman and the St Therese’s school community on their anniversary.
“The positive impact that this wonderful school has had in the rapidly developing community of Cranbourne reflects the aspirations of our Catholic communities, to live our faith in service to others and to spread the Christian message of hope in the world. We are proud of the commitment, achievements, and service of everyone involved,” Ms Kirkwood said.
