The new principal of Columba Catholic Primary School in Bunyip will feel right at home when he walks into the school.
The son of Bunyip’s well-known former newsagents, Joe and Camilla Greco, Mr Andrew Greco (pictured below) will take up the role in time for the start of the 2020 school year. Andrew is currently Deputy Principal at St Michael’s Primary School in Berwick, and has a broad range of experience as a Catholic educator and school leader.
“I am grateful to be welcomed back into the community I grew up in as the principal of Columba.
“The Columba school community has been built on tremendous care and kindness for all students and families. We will work hard to maintain the strong culture of faith and learning, and continue to provide a very special environment for the children we teach,” he said.
The school’s current principal, Ms Jan Gubbins, is set to retire at the end of 2019. After 13 years at the helm, Ms Gubbins said she is happy that Columba will be left in good hands.
“I know Andrew will lead our wonderful school community with integrity, enthusiasm and wisdom, maintaining the school’s position as a high-quality provider of affordable Catholic education in Bunyip,” she said.
Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale, Ms Maria Kirkwood, thanked Ms Gubbins for her service, and congratulated Mr Greco on his appointment.
“Andrew’s deep understanding of the community in Bunyip will be an asset as he works to build on the strong foundations laid by Jan during her time at Columba. I encourage Andrew and the school community to draw strength from our loving God as they continue to strive for excellence and equity in all that they do,” Ms Kirkwood said.
