Upon arriving in Dargo, the warmth of St. Joseph's is immediately apparent. Surrounded by lush greenery, this modest yet beautifully maintained Church stands as a testament to the faith and dedication of the small local community.
Fr. Edwin Ogbuka, the parish priest of St Mary's Maffra, travels the long, winding roads to Dargo to celebrate Mass with this small yet devoted community. His journey reflects his deep pastoral care and love for the people of this remote town. Despite the distance, Fr. Edwin ensures that Dargo is always supported by the spiritual nourishment of the Eucharist. Sometimes his parishioners drive him to Dargo.
The parish is currently lovingly cared for by Philip and Sue O'Brien, residents of Dargo. Their commitment to the Church is evident in every detail from the spotless floors to the thoughtful preparations for the Mass held every 5th Sunday of the month. Despite its small size, the parish is vibrant and welcoming.
The Diocese of Sale is currently undertaking a process of prayer, dialogue, and listening to agree on pastoral initiatives for the next five years to help our faith communities become more Christ-centred, synodal, and missionary. The lighting of the Diocesan Assembly candle and the assembly prayer during Mass highlighted the eagerness of parishioners to contribute and reflected the Diocese's commitment to including even smaller communities in this vital journey.
Visiting St. Joseph's is a spiritual experience and a reminder of the strong faith that thrives in even the smallest communities. If you're looking for a quiet, inspiring place to reflect and connect with God, Dargo is the perfect destination.
